Polyoxymethylene, POM, people also name it as acetal resin, polyacetal, polyacetal plastic, polytrioxane and polyformaldehyde, is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic, normally available in homopolymer or copolymer.
Under temperatrue −40 °C, polyoxymethylene POM products still with good perforamce of high strength, hardness and rigidity. POM becomes a very good replacement for metal materials.
Polyoxymethylene Key trademark(producer):
Delrin(DuPont), Kocetal(Kolon), Ultraform(BASF), Celcon(H+H), Ramtal(Polyram), Duracon(Polyplastics), Kepital(KEP), Tenac(Asahi) and Hostaform(Celanese).
Standard polyacetal plastic Grades:
Melt Flow Index: 3g/10min(K30); polyoxymethylene 9g/10min(K90); polyoxymethylene 13g/10min(K130); 27g/10min(K270); polyacetal plastic 52g/10min(K520);
Modified polyoxymethylene Grades:
Reinforced Grades: Glass fiber, carbon fiber or glass spheres-reinforced POM polyacetal plastic, high tensile strength or rigidity;
High Slip/Wear Grades: Modified polyoxymethylene with additives such as graphite, PTFE, mineral fillers, etc. enhances abrasion resistant and slip properties;
UV Stabilized Grades: Modified polyacetal plastic with UV stabilizers, like hindered-amine light stabilizers and UV absorbers to improve the UV stability;
High Impact/Toughened Grades: Blending polyacetal plastic with rubber, TPU and other polymers for higher impact strength;
Antistatic/conductive Grades: Modified polyoxymethylene with Al powder or bronze powder to enhance electrical conductivity.
Polyoxymethylene Key features: Low coefficient of friction, Abrasion resistance, Low water absorbtion, Good dielectric properties, Excellent dimensional stability, Good electrical insulation.
Polyoxymethylene POM can support high stiffness, low friction and excellent dimensional stability, popularly used in precision parts, which brings high strength, hardness and rigidity.
POM polyacetal plastic is used for high-performance engineering components such as gun parts, small gear wheels, fasteners, eyeglass frames, ball bearings, ski bindings, knife handles, and lock systems.
POM is widely used in the automotive and consumer electronics industry.
POM is also used as a substitute for acrylic resins and metals in numerous prosthetic applications.
Typical Polyoxymethylene Applications: Food conveyers, Zippers, Steering columns, Bushings, Seat belt components, Fasteners, Filter housings, Insulin pens.
